BIOGRAPHY
Maria Antelman (b. 1971, Athens, Greece) is a visual artist based in New York. She works mainly with 35mm film photography and holds an MFA in New Genres from Columbia University. Antelman’s practice grapples with themes of memory, identity, and the physical body, drawing inspiration from new and old technologies and their impact on our experience of time. Antelman has been included in group and solo exhibitions at the Bemis Center of Contemporary Art, NE; Pioneer Works, NY; Museum of Modern Art, NY; Visual Arts Center at UT Austin, TX; National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens, Greece; Onassis Cultural Centre, Athens, Greece; Benaki Museum, Athens, Greece; Centro Nacional de Arte Contemporaneo, Cerillos, Chile; and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, CA, among others. She has been awarded production grants from the Onassis Foundation USA, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens, and the J.F. Costopoulos Foundation.
